Round 7 BTCC at Croft Circuit 18th/19th Sept 2021
Good morning from Croft after that incredible qualifying session yesterday which saw Aiden on Pole position for today’s first race. The weather has changed from yesterday’s warm and slightly humid conditions to a much more miserable grey and with rain in the air.
With Aiden on Pole, Ash in 8th and Carl in 20th the team were in great shape. It was time for action. Off the line all three got a good start and Aiden lead into the first corner. In an initial stint Aiden was able to hold his lead, but then came the dreaded safety car as one of the Honda’s went into the barriers at the complex.
On the restart it was all systems go and Aiden Ash and Carl were all systems go. Aiden stayed out front, Ash gained two places and Carl gained 5 places. At the end it was a lights to flag victory for Aiden, leading every single lap and taking his first win at Croft and his first pole and race 1 win anywhere. Wow!
Ash gained valuable points and will start race 2 with a big incentive to steal a couple more places or hope that a reverse grid is kind for race 3 points. Carl must also be happy with an excellent result and a good opportunity for race 2.
We move on now to Race 2 with Aiden fighting for another win, Ash hoping for a podium and Carl hoping for more points. We’ll bring you the action later!
As the action continues after that incredible race 1 which saw Aiden win today’s first race. The weather has changed from to a much sunnier proposition and the massive crowd were loving it .
With Aiden on Pole, Ash in 6th and Carl in 15th the team were in fighting mood. Off the line all three got a good start and Aiden had to muscle up the side of Jake Hill lead into the first corner. Aiden was able to hold his lead, but then came the now customary safety car.
On the restart Aiden was immediately under attack from Jake Hills lighter Ford and eventually Jake got past and blasted off into the distance to end the race 4 seconds clear. Aiden then did a mammoth job to bring his fully laden Infinity home in second. Ash had a constant battle with those around him nudging him at every opportunity and he brought the car home in 5th with Carl in 23rd.
After the reverse grid was drawn at number 7, which puts Colin Turkington on pole with Ash 3rd on the grid, Aiden 6th and Carl 23rd.
We move on now to Race 3 with most of the title contenders in the top 5 on the grid, so let’s see if the sparks will fly! We’ll bring you the action later!
Well, what a final race, what a day and what a weekend for the Laser Tools Racing team and all 3 of our drivers. Everyone got to take some silverware and we won 7 of the available racing trophies in the BTCC this weekend.
So what happened in race 3? On the grid we had Ash in 3rd, Aiden in 6th and Carl in 23rd. At the end we had Ash in 3rd despite a monumental battle with Gordon Shedden, Aiden in 6th after he was able to gap Jake Hill by almost 2 seconds and Carl up to 15th! That result gave Carl the Jack Sears Trophy for Croft and so all three of our drivers tasted that “Champagne moment”.
What has this meant for the various championships?
· Driver’s Championship – Ash in 1st place with a 29 point lead
· Driver’s Championship – Aiden up to 6th place, 2 points behind Gordon Shedden
