Knockhill BTCC - All The Race Details 14th & 15th August 2021
Laser Tools Racing Knockhill Race 1
Hello all from a cool, but dry Knochill circuit in Fide. This weekend marks the halfway point in the 2021 season and so far this season, Laser Tools Racing have been continuing the great work from last year.
We start race 1 with Ash in P6 and Aiden P7 and Carl unfortunately lower down the grid in 25th after some mechanical issues yesterday. This being Aiden’s home track we are hoping for great things and there is no doubt that Aiden and Ash are handily placed and on the pace.
Off the line it was clear that the top 5 who were all on soft tyres were really getting away and within 2 laps the leader Colin Turkington had already pulled a 2.5 second lead over the bulk of the field. This left Aiden and Ash fighting with Jake Hill and Chris Smiley and it was game on until there was a very long safety car period after Dan Lloyd went off heavily.
After the break, Ash was able to get Jake hill after a monster battle which saw hill pushing the boundaries of defence and then getting past Chris Smiley with 4 laps to go. Aiden meanwhile was being fended off by Hill and whilst not wanting to take risks kept a comfortable 7th place. Ash tried his best to get on the back of Josh Cook in third but ended up making up t ran out of laps. So Ash finished 4th and Aiden 7th.
After yesterdays mechanical issues, Carl was doing an outstanding job and ended up 7 places higher in 18th, showing just how far he and the car have come together recently
We move on now to Race 2 with the prospect of some terrific racing for places and the boys are sure to be in the thick of it.
Laser Tools Racing Knockhill Race 2
Race 2 at a cool, but amazingly still dry Knockhill circuit in Fife. Looking to capitalise on a solid race 1 on the medium tyre it was time to go for the softs as we would be for the rest of the day.
Off the line all 3 of our cars made great starts but the flow of the race was once again stopped by a lengthy safety car spell. After the resumption, Ash was soon on it and set off after the leader Colin Turkington. Carl was storming away from his starting position of 18th and was looking totally at home with the car and track. Aiden was still pushing hard in a serious battle with Gordon Shedden, Rory Butcher and Tom Ingram.
After yet another safety car, the gloves were off up and down the order and with 5 laps to go Ash had a go at Colin Turkington for the lead, but as Colin fended him off, it looked like Ash had missed his chance of victory. Then Aiden tangled with Rory Butcher over the start finish line and Rory ended up in the gravel, this time only for yellow flags. Meanwhile Carl had been steadily taking places regularly and as we came to 2 laps to go we were in 2nd with Ash, 10th with Carl and Aidan 11th .
Then the drama! On start of the next to last lap, Ash sized up Colin and went for it and at the end of the lap pulled off a fantastic move to take the lead which he kept for the last 55 seconds of the race to win. We must also pay tribute to Carl who in 2 races had gone from 25th to 18th and then 18th to 10th in a brilliant display.
We move on now to Race 3 and we have had the result of the reverse draw. There will be a wall of Laser Tools cars as we start with Ash 9th, Carl 10th and Aiden 11th. Bring it on!!
Laser Tools Racing Knockhill Race 3
Race 3, the final race of the day and a good chance for some more solid points as the guys start in 9th, 10th and 11th to form a blue and white wall across the track!
In what proved to be an attritional final race full of flat out racing the top 10 battle was intense with Ash, Aiden and Carl all enjoy excellent runs before Carl was unfortunate to get blocked by the battle ahead at the hairpin, costing him valuable places and points, but even so he was upbeat after a great weekend with the car.
Without any desperate dramas, the team quietly fought through the field to produce a magnificent result with Ash in 5th, Aiden 7th and Carl unlucky in 11th. We were so close to getting all 3 cars in the top 10 for the first time, but it’s coming! So, where does that leave Laser Tools Racing after the first half of the season?? Well:
· Ash leads the Drivers title race by 14 points from Tom Ingram and 34 from Coin Turkington
· Laser Tools Racing lead the Teams Championship by 37 points from BTC Racing
· Laser Tools Racing lead the Independent Teams standings by 10 points from Halfords
· Ash leads the Independent Drivers standings by 14 points from Tom Ingram-
· Aiden is 7th and Carl 13th as they both gained impressive points.
· Carl sits 2nd in the Jack Sears Trophy listings
So, it’s back to Thruxton in 2 weeks time for the start of the congested 2nd half of the season with 5 rounds in 8 weeks to decide the Silverware. We’ll bring you all the news and action as it happens thank you all for your wonderful support.
